Partnering with Signals on Next-gen Identity Proofing for Researchers

We signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Signals to collaborate on next-generation identity-proofing requirements for researchers.

Both organizations are committed to strengthening trust in scholarly communications: our cooperative through researcher-centered, privacy-first identity verification; Signals through transparent, article-level assessments of research credibility.

Signals co-founder Elliott Lumb: "Publishers increasingly recognize the need for author verification to ensure a trustworthy scholarly record. With recent cases of fake authorship, it's essential that researchers can protect their identities and reputations."

The organizations planned to integrate verification services into Signals' operations by October 2025. Co-founder Chris Phillips called Signals' work needed curation of research-ecosystem integrity, complemented by strengthening the human dimension of trust.
